Friday 5th February

We were awoken at 6am , initially by the regular sounding of car doors slamming. As this subsided there was a an undertone of chatter coming from the room below us. This combined with the rapidly increasing traffic noise as rush hour commenced made it impossible to sleep. I donned my ‘Elizas complimentary dressing gown’ and went to reception to find 54 members of the Christchurch Rotary having their Friday breakfast meeting! I was tempted to offer a speech on how noise pollution has effected tourism, but seeing as they do so much good I retreated back to my room!

So we had an early start, initially including researching alternative hotels, which contrary to popular belief were not cheaper being last minute and all seemed to suffer from being on main roads. So we decided after the wonderful breakfast and sympathetic response from the owners to stay put and buy some earplugs!

We had a very enjoyable day in Christchurch, it is renowned for being very British with the river Avon running through it with weeping willow trees and punts on the river. The blend of old and new buildings also have an English touch as you can see.

The Botanic gardens , the third we have visited were fabulous and any garden lover must visit.

It is a real privilege to be here in summer when everything is in leaf and bloom in contrast to the winter at home in Europe( although that has its beauty too).

From here we had a stroll through the Museum, which was quite enjoyable and headed back towards our hotel. On route we came across this wonderful grocers shop, Johnson‘s, the gentleman, who has visited Provence quite recently has served behind the counter for 53 years. That’s service. The selection was incredible.

Another unusual store we came across was Fazzaz selling everything automobile including Morgan sports cars! We like to take in the alternative tourist trail!
