Saturday 6th February
We made an early start to Akaroa on the East coast. Again quite spectacular scenery . We felt a little at home here as the village has a French theme. A Frenchman arrived there in the 1800’s. He liked it and returned to France to bring some settlers back. By the time he returned the British had beaten them to it.
But they managed to both live there in harmony hence the French theme still being in existence!

The mouth of the harbour leads to the Pacific Ocean. Therefore it is on the route of many Cruise ships including one being there today. An extra 1600 visitors !

So we left shore and took the boat to see the Hectors Dolphins, unique to New Zealand. Murphy, the ships dog was the Dolphin spotter!
And he really did see them before we did (or maybe hear them).

On return we took the Summit road from which the views were, well judge for your self!

We eventually found our selves back in Lyttleton harbour , the port for Christchurch, not the prettiest but again popular with the cruise liners . This ship left and we joined a few locals to see her off.

For those who think we eat out every night we retreated to our room and had cold left over Pizza washed down with a bottle of Sauvignon!
