Wednesday 3rd February

On Wednesday we left Blenheim on the drive to Kaikoura, which is on the east coast. It is known for for whale watching and they had been spotted about 6 kms out. Unfortunately all the boats were booked out so must put that on the list for next time!

The drive, about 2 hours had been pretty dull with the landscape brown and parched.

Until we met the seal colony, literally at the side of the road. They are fascinating creatures!

The town of Kaikoura was, well, different, like an old fashioned seaside town. Just like stepping back to Walton on the Naze in the 60’s!
As we left the clouds lifted and the scenery changed dramatically

We were on route to Hanmer springs, one of the most famous in New Zealand and certainly a beautiful area with incredible scenery.

Suddenly the drive had taken on a whole new dimension

The bridge and boat bring together the next leg of our journey. Sorry, no Bunjee jumps, but jet boating down the river. That’s tomorrow

Tonight we are staying at a B&B, very nice, well run and after dinner we brush up our pool skills on this fine full size table, as ever the Diva of Essex beat me!
